My Rex Blog 1.4 (Shock Services)

i got this part from one of my fellow CRX friend. actually this come from an EG body, it's OHLIN adjustable suspension. u can see that from the pic how big the spring was, and i'm sure this really gonna be a bumpy ride on my rex, but Bob keep promoting me saying "ini dia ada progresive spring,ko kasi main sure boleh lembut punya...." and i took the bait. dang!!!

ok, straight to the process. this is the abs when i took it

after applying some WD40 to get rid of the rust

dismantling the spring

u can see the stubborn rust there

after all been dismantle, this 1 gave me headache.its stuck and damn stubborn.its top washer was badly corroded and can't be pulled out even how hard i tried.so i just leave it that way....

so here is part of the tools i used for the project.there was 1 pair of latex glove (pink colour, not so kinky though it was latex....),wire brush (good for stubborn metal, rust brushing coz sandpaper alone won't do the tough job), a can of PYLOX anti rust primer and previous flat black spray can (supposed to be used for my rim project and part of cost reduction, i was planning to get blue colour to match the OEM one),and this spray can comes along with free screwdriver, now i've collected 3 of them (barang free maa, sebat aje...hehe), and most important thing in my project, the bleaching water (noted that this was actually an acid water made for cleaning tiles, and especially for removing rust)

total cost of it:
wire brush = RM5 est
latex glove = RM3 est
Pylox spray = RM8 est
bleach water = RM13 est
some sandpaper = RM1 est

Total = RM30 est (price may vary in different shop)

i've brought the rusty progressive spring and its intermediate section to my workshop for sandblasting process. as u can see how the rusty spring was before and now here's the result.

now all the rust have gone....

bling bling ding geding gallay......

a bit of a prob, the sandblasting process lead to some extreme consequences. it did a good job to washed away all the rust, along with the material...so what's left is like this..

there's nothing i can do with the intersection so i just left it that way and resprayed it. since it was an alloy material so the next process is not necessary.so the progressive spring has to be cleaned again with wire brush to remove tiny rust leftover by hand. u can see the difference there (left vs right....forgive me if the pics was a bit blurry because my hand was totally shaky after brushing those, at least i had a few try but so far this was the best...i guess so...).

i really love some detail so i did a few method and evaluate the process, as u can see my method to dust of the rust only takes 3 method, lastly this: acid soaking. this method is highly risky method and u really have to get a pair of latex gloves (the medical type wont work as it was too thin and short it may drip to your skin), and also a face mask since the acid will vapour & the gas was poisonous (i don't have this so i have to be a ninja-wrap my face with my tshirt, hahaha)

so the process begin....at 2 am....

finish result...

same goes to the pillow mount, its not badly corroded but still in need for love...

also there goes the absorber. see how sweet they are now. please take extra caution since this was acid, do not let it spill to your skin. sometimes it does irritate my skin, hence i also have some skin rash & allergic problem at night, its called 'gegata' (i think so).thankful i didn't get any prolong bad symptom of it but the smell still irritate my nose....dang!!

me in ninja suit

i'll continue later.....
